Artist's Tilt Table INFORMATION

  • The Artists' Tilt Table™ is a revolutionary new tool that will change the way you sculpt. This valuable tool simply attaches to any work stand or table with ordinary C-clamps (not included).

  • Top plate attaches with three screws to the Tilt Table. This top plate gives you the ability to attach whichever armature you prefer directly to the top plate. Additional plates can be purchased to allow multiple sculpture to use the Tilt Table while in process.

Example of flange added to top plate. Add your own flange for the armature that you prefer.
Example of a flange can be added off center for additional armature options.

Tilt Table allows you to turn your sculpture 360 degrees and lock in any position.

Tilt forward...
tilt backward.
The tilt can be locked at any angle.

Rotate while locked at tilt position. All angles are easily accessed without risk of damaging your work in the process. Turn sculpture while tilted so your work moves, you don't.

DIRECTIONS

Please Note before using the Tilt Table:
  1. The base must be clamped to a table or desk before tilting the table with a sculpting material on it. (Look at the position of the base on the table in Fig. 1 before clamping the base to a table)

a) Base
b) Upper Pivot
c) Large Upper Wing Nut - Controls the rotation of the table and top in the upper pivot
d) Lower Pivot
e) Small Wing Nut - Controls the tilt of the upper pivot and the table and top
f) Large Lower Wing Nut - Controls the rotation of the lower pivot on the base post

With the base clamped in this position, the table top can be easily tilted toward or away from the artist and the weight of the work piece stays close to the base post. (The most compact and stable position). Also, the wing-nuts are easily accessible.

2. The small wing-nut which controls the tilt, needs to be tighten except when adjusting the tilt of the table. Re-tighten after it is positioned.

3. The Tilt Table is designed for a maximum weight of about 20 pounds. If you plan to tilt the table the full 90 degrees you need to lock it in that position. (20 pounds is about the weight of a full size head and neck in clay)

Be careful not to over-tighten the wing nuts. A good rule of thumb is to tighten the wing-nut to where you just feel a drag on the pivot and then tighten the wing-nut ½ to ¾ turn more.

4. When you loosen the wing-nuts to change table top position, just loosen them about ¾ to 1 turn.

5. The patent pending design of the Tilt Table lets the tilt of the work piece come down at an angle so that you are not supporting the full weight of the work piece. This action gives you more control and makes the clamp more effective.

6. If the base is clamped as shown in Fig. 1, the table top can be tilted straight toward you or away from you by loosening all three of the wing-nuts and guiding the top in the direction you want it to go. When moving straight back or forward, all three of the pivots will be rotating at the same time.

7. Be sure to design your armature so that it will support the clay in the tilted and/or rotated position without sagging or bending. The armatures I use are built using ½ inch I.D. water pipe and fittings. You can use a flange mount bolted to the table top. (Use flat head screws counter-sunk from the bottom of the additional table top and put nuts on top. There are many different lengths of pipe nipples, 45 degree angles, 90 degree angles, tees, crosses, etc. available at Home Depot or Lowe’s at very reasonable prices.
