The Workshop will begin with the Friday evening “Intro to Winterstone” lecture 5pm to 8pm, detailing the characteristics and advantages of Winterstone. Workshop attendees will stay after the lecture to discuss design and start the armature for their Winterstone sculpture; approximately 8pm to 10pm. These evening hours will allow students to begin their armature and “cement” the anchors and joints to cure overnight; resulting in a stronger armature and easier sculpting. It is very important that each attendee have an initial design in mind before attending the workshop; sculpting will begin right away. The design should be relatively simple; keep in mind that the object of the workshop is to learn a new product not necessarily make a masterpiece!
During the remainder of the workshop, Mr. Winters will concentrate on the working of Winterstone, helping each student as they work on their own sculpture. Throughout the weekend he will demonstrate how to mix, sculpt, sand, smooth and patinate Winterstone in order to achieve the desired shape, texture and variety of finishes. The workshop will conclude Sunday evening with “The Art & Science of Patination for Winterstone” lecture from 6pm to 9pm.
All the materials for this workshop will be included in the registration fee. If there are particular tools you would prefer to work with you are welcome to bring them. There will be various breaks during the workshop. |
