In this workshop, students will create a sculptural vessel featuring an Australian eucalyptus tree forest with eucalyptus flowers, a cuddly koala hiding in the branches, and other Australian flora and fauna.

In his class, the techniques for wrapping a glass vessel to ready it for added sculptural work will be learned, as well as the use of wire armatures for tree branch supports, and other tricks for creating fully dimensional work in polymer clay. Of course, color blending, composition, and creativity will be stressed. The techniques for adding beads and other embellishments to the sculpture will feature prominently.

Students may be able to complete the project in class, but if not, all the main components will be covered and only finishing details may be left for the student to finish after class. About the Instructor: Christi Friesen was born at a very young age, kidnapped and raised by lemmings. She escaped to California where she got married, had various wonderful kids, and amassed credit card bills. She is currently considering having a midlife crisis, unless there’s something good on television.
CF works in mixed media and combines polymer clay, glass, acrylic, found objects, gems and semi-precious stones, glass beads, pearls, precious metals, and pigments to make her sculptural pieces and art jewelry.
CF is an artist because she must be. Her goal is to amuse herself, and others are welcome to be amused as well. All her pieces are one-of-a-kind.
