| Due to its scarcity in the mines, it has been found once in the last 6 years, there is a limited amount. We have gotten some magnificent pieces from it. Agate is a stone similar to Alabaster in characteristics and can be carved in the same fashion as the translucent stones. It bruises easily so requires a soft touch. The color ranges from a honey white/yellow to a dark black with mica sheen. The Italians call it "Black Gold". Honey dribbling from the comb in a swirling delicate pattern creates the mystique behind Italian Agate. (My mother loves this stone). |
