SUGGESTIONS FROM TCS FOR CRACKLE PAINT USE
  • Be sure to make some test patches of crackle before you apply it to your finished piece. You can use these to find what thickness of the coats produces the size crackle you desire. Also use these examples to practice using color to bring out the crackle.
  • The surface you wish to crackle should be clean of dust and oil or grease. We recommend not over working the crackle paint. Apply in few strokes as it takes to cover your object. Use of a very soft brush or a foam brush is handy for avoiding brushstrokes in the crackle medium. Make sure not to apply Part 1 & 2 too thin or they won’t crackle. Very thick coats and areas of deep detail where the coats may puddle will give you high relief cracks and some yellowish color.
  • After applying both parts of Anita’s Fragile Crackle Medium as directed you might not see any crackling right away. The crackle happens when the second coat dries and due to both parts being clear, you may need some color rubbed into the cracks before they are visible. For this step there are many products you can use including acrylic paint, water-based stains, powdered pigments and waxes depending on the look your desire.
